When Readcity launched in 2017, I wrote in a voice that sounded nothing like *me*. Sure, I spoke about copywriting tips and my offer. But my personality may as well have been a beige-flavoured pie. Bland, boring and forgettable.
Nothing set me apart from other copywriters because I’d fallen into the trap of thinking that being professional meant being serious all the time. And that I needed to speak like some robotic textbook to be taken seriously. Not to mention the ridic corporate outfits I’d buy for photoshoots to complete the facade.
I was ghostly invisible and knew I had to start being more me, to be less them. So, I dug deep into my dream clients’ minds (psychology background here) and discovered what actually made me different. What my existing clients liked, and what I wanted to be known for. Then I wrapped it all up into a crispy voice guide and have been nibblin’ it ever since. (Pepper mushroom flavoured, thanks for asking.)
I can’t tell you how damn liberating it feels to know exactly how to show up as the real me in my biz (blazer and acrylic nail-free). All in language I know sticks inside my dream peeps’ sparklin’ skulls. Because, word science.
Now? I don’t speak like the goopy corporate robot I thought I had to be. Think more like if Jack Black squeezed into some leather pants and drank margs all day.
Now I help rebellious business owners like you rock your original lyrics, rhythm and message like a catchy riff that leads dream peeps straight to you
